This site was originally a stable block, converted into a pair of houses about a hundred years ago.  Poorly conceived extensions had been added over the years and our brief was to remove these and extend the house.  This has resulted in an elegant living space that would both integrate with the original structure and provide a link to the garden.

The design provides a new kitchen and sitting area with a log burning stove in a large external chimney, visually anchoring the building into the landscape.  This space is lit with a lantern providing natural light and introducing an impression of height.

Use of natural materials such as oak and slate echo the original house.  A reconfigured internal layout rationalises the existing rooms.
