The Assembly Room in Knutsford dates from the eighteenth century, although altered over the years.  Originally part of The Royal George coaching inn it is on the first floor and was originally accessed by the main hotel stair.
Our brief was to convert the ballroom into a restaurant in order to both give the building a further lease of life and also allow the public an opportunity to see the hitherto inaccessible interior.
In addition to the restoration of the original mouldings, the scheme comprised forming a new entrance via a bridge over the pedestrianised road and erecting a mezzanine structure independent of the main window walls.
Access to the restaurant in the main ballroom is through the circular historic Wig Room which has become the reception and waiting area.
